I keep telling myself to try and blog regularly, but we all know that I have failed miserably. And it always seemed that the urge to blog comes towards the mid/end of the month. May is coming to an end soon (I know, its only mid-May), and soon we will be reaching the half-year mark. I think it is good to reflect on you have done and achieved thus far. Especially for me, since 2011 was just ..
The only 2 major updates I have for 2012, to date, is the fact that I embarked on a new job. The good thing about it this time was, the job scope has always been something that I've been wanting to do. Research, and writing. Its been close to 2 months now, and I've learnt so much since then. The best thing is, I actually do feel that I am working and significantly contributing to the company. That, to me, is personal satisfaction.
I also decided to continue with studying the Korean language, beginning late last year. I had almost a year break, and one day, I figured it was good to break free from my usual routine of just home + work. That was when I decided to pick up the language again. No regrets about that. If anything, I was really lucky because I met one of the best language teacher one could ever ask for. Ms Jessie Kim. You know how you can tell when someone is just in it for the money, rather than teaching. That isn't the case for her. She is passionate, and I'm sure the rest of my classmates know that. Which is why we have decided to pursue the language and get the Topik certificate. Because we feel so motivated by her. It was a great achievement for me to finally complete the 4 Basic levels at Daehan. Hopefully Topik in October wouldn't be of much trouble to me. Although I know that I need to put in more effort in my time management..
Which brings me to the next point. Some might find it curious as to why I am even learning the language. Other than being an avid follower of the Hallyu wave, it goes beyond that as well. Firstly, I've always been interested in languages. Or to be specific, Asian languages. I took Chinese as an elective back in Uni, not only to learn some basic conversational Mandarin, but also to learn how to write Chinese characters. Which was extremely tough, I must say. Don't even let me get started on hanyu pinyin. The whole experience of learning was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. No doubt it comes in pretty useful as well, especially in a country like Singapore where Mandarin comes next to English. Learning 한국어 (Korean language) came about when QQ was set to go to Seoul for exchange and decided to take up Basic Korean, as part of her survival skills there. Me being me, decided to tag along and so the story goes.. That's just how it is.
Oh, and I should really start sketching again. Gahhh. Time time time.
